I’m Kelly Reyes Rivera, MS, founder of Balanced Coaching. With a Master’s in Forensic Psychology and a background in trauma-informed care, I’ve spent years working with adults, teens, and children who have experienced emotional wounds, behavioral challenges, and cognitive decline. From guiding clients through trauma recovery to teaching practical memory strategies to older adults facing early dementia, my work is grounded in evidence-based methods and a deep respect for each person’s journey.
Balanced Coaching was born out of a desire to bridge clinical insight with everyday transformation—offering tools that heal, strengthen, and empower. My husband and I serve together in our calling. Though he’s an accountant by profession, we are united in our purpose: to honor God by helping those He places in front of us. Whether it's through coaching, mentoring, or simply showing up with compassion, we believe in creating spaces where individuals and families can heal, grow, and thrive.
At Balanced Coaching, you’ll find more than support—you’ll find a partnership rooted in truth, grace, and a genuine commitment to your growth.
My coaching integrates evidence-based methods like Cognitive Behavioral Coaching, mindfulness, and goal-setting, combined with a strong foundation in brain health. Through my work in psychiatric clinics that used advanced brain imaging to guide diagnosis and treatment, I’ve developed a deep understanding of how thought patterns, emotions, and behavior are wired in the brain.
I apply that knowledge—along with training in EMDR and Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP)—to help clients identify what’s keeping them stuck, shift limiting beliefs, and build practical strategies for lasting change. The result is a coaching process that’s structured, supportive, and grounded in both science and real-world results.
Balanced Coaching begins with a complimentary consultation to assess the client’s goals, current challenges, and overall fit for the coaching process. If aligned, sessions are structured using evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Coaching, mindfulness practices, EMDR-informed strategies, and principles from Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP). Each session includes practical, real-world action steps, as meaningful change is most often achieved between sessions through consistent application.
A six-month coaching commitment is generally recommended, as research on neuroplasticity indicates that sustained change in the brain typically occurs over a period of three to six months of focused effort. This duration allows for the development of new patterns, emotional resilience, and long-term progress.
For child and adolescent clients, parental involvement is a key part of the process. Studies show that outcomes significantly improve when caregivers actively participate and reinforce strategies at home. As such, parent sessions or check-ins are integrated as a standard part of youth coaching plans.
